Bad Pharmacy

I go to the pharmacy tonight to pick up a prescription. The drive-thru is closed, so I mask-up and head inside. I take my place in a line running halfway up one long aisle, the longest traffic jam I’ve ever seen there. Only gradually do I realize this line is a human synth of coughing, some maniac banging notes all up and down the keyboard. The persons on either side of me are alternating as fast as two people can cough, a two-note tune like the lead-up to a corpse reveal in a horror movie. That’s when it hits me. I’m in a virus pit. This is pandemic time, and flu season, too, and here I am in a zombie march of the town’s afflicted. And the only person wearing a mask. I leave that place just short of running. Without the meds I came for. Without breathing, to the extent I can. Even the cashier is one of them, wearing a mask that hangs open down to her bottom lip, the mouth chewing air in, chewing it out, smiling. Holy hell! When did my sensible, courteous town become a death cult?

Linda Beaver: Yikes. Glad you got out of there. I haven’t noticed any obviously sick people when I’ve been out yet. Plenty of non-maskers though.

Camille Dinally: What you have described there seems to be the new norm. People are wearing mask the wrong way just to say they are wearing a mask. It makes no sense.

Jeff Stache: I kinda wanna go cough on them, but now you get arrested for that.

Tom Beaver: It used to be such innocent fun!

Jeff Stache: Tom Beaver now you can actually kill people that way.

Tom Beaver: Yes indeed. People are in fact killing people this way, not deliberately, but still killing them just as dead. A mask is pretty much the easiest, cheapest preventive we could have prayed for. Such a sad wonder that we aren’t all wearing them.

Pete Baker: We are witnessing the world gone truly mad.

Cathie Bradley Schoppenhorst: Time to change pharmacies? I think they are all understaffed and backed up.

Tom Beaver: Cathie Bradley Schoppenhorst Do some of the other pharmacies require masks? If so, I will indeed change pharmacies. I currrently use Walgreen’s.

Elaine Rogers McClain: agree, my cousin vicki and i were wanting to attend a funeral this last week of a good family friend, she had been a neighbor to neta belle and lynn snow, and gus and tom elliott. loretta’s husband, mr. cude was pall bearer for tom and gus of their passings.....we decided to stay home ;( as covid is sapose to be very contaigous and vaccinated people are getting covid.
