The Hungry Defense

“Hunting for food” is often given as a justification for killing animals. I’m only half-satisfied with that argument. A person could use the same rationalization for killing a dog, a lion or even a human. “Well, your honor, I ate him afterwards.” Few people need venison or squirrel

I eat beef. But I never look at a cow and feel hungry, or even think about the cow as meat. I look at a cow and think how much they enjoy being petted, or playing with a ball, or getting out of a barn in the morning.
