UFO in Marthasville

This was a few nights ago. I was in Marthasville, near the Edwards’ house, at night, with some others. We saw an object moving in the sky, a large circular object with lights all around its shell. I had the feeling I always have in these dreams where I see a UFO—it is really happening now? Am I finally seeing this?

It moved impossibly fast, with sudden starts and stops and changes of direction. This movement went beyond mere flying—it was a stunt show, and I felt keenly that it was meant to intimidate us, if nothing else by being so absurdly unnecessary, a demonstration of unsurpassable ability. The aerial maneuvers lasted 15 seconds or so, a visual machine gunning of motion and light. Just as I became convinced that this had to be an object from another world—oh, such a feeling when I see an alien spacecraft in a dream—the object stopped dashing around the sky and began a slow drifting away from us. There was a palpable easing of tension. We were safe.

Breaking the nervous hush, I said, with a chuckle of bravado, “They were just trying to scare us.” The flying object suddenly slowed , like someone overhearing an insult as they’re heading out the door. Then it reversed course, came drifing back until it was above us, taking a hovering position above the Edwards’ house. It suddenly swelled to a much larger size. It fired a batch of flaring missiles, slow like Fourth of July rockets, but much larger. They hit the earth just a block from us, shaking the ground like they were solid iron, and remaining upright. In a few moments we saw it was not missiles that had come, but people—people of ordinary size, but great mass. They assumed the poses of fighters preparing for hand-to-hand battle.

A confrontation we had almost been spared.

A war of worlds in Marthasville, Missouri, of all places.

Because I had opened my mouth.

I don’t recall what happened next. I think the dream ended very soon after.
