What They Never Say
Tom Beaver: One thing I've never heard in any form from a Christian: "The Bible tells me homeosexuality is wrong, so I have to oppose it, but it breaks my heart, makes me want to argue with my God, makes me study the Bible like I've never studied it before, looking for some way around this, some possible mistake in translation or interpretation — because having to make life harder and lonelier for people who love one another, having to reduce the number of loving couples and devoted parents in the world, having to tell people their happiness puts God into a rage, having to do for religious reasons the exact same thing that narrow-minded, hateful, ignorant people do for vicious reasons, it makes me sick and ashamed and depressed, and it makes me say to myself, 'I know my God is a loving God, and I want to share that good news with the world, but who's going to believe me after this?'"

Tom Beaver: It's strange that evangelical Christians can for the most part co-exist fine with non-believers, but when it comes to sex and love between people of the same gender, they make a federal case out of it. I can't find in the Bible where believers are told to make the unconverted live by the moral rules of the converted. Generally they don't try to. But on this matter they do. Their gospel tells them that changing our behaviors won't save us, so it's not to get gays into heaven. It's apparently just to keep the already saved having from having to tolerate the knowledge that some people are out there doing this one sexual thing. Finickiness on an absurd scale. Like me agitating for laws that say no one can be a baseball fan, just because I have no interest in baseball.
